Ahoy, Paul! Welcome to the Popeye board. I like your icon. Doc Thanks! I found it with a Google search- "popeye avatars", I believe. It never ceases to amaze me what one can find on the 'net. You know, I just found out today that Popeye has the same birthday as my Mother! His very first appearance in the Thimble Theater comic strip on January 17, 1929 was on my Mom's third birthday. Maybe that explains a few things...

Hi, I'm Anthony, of Boston, I'll be 56 in May '08. Watched Popeye on TV in Indiana in the '50's and was hooked. I have a pretty complete collection of the 'toons on DVD (the VintageTheatre.com version), and I'm amazed at how familiar I am with them ... makes me wonder if I really did anything else in my spare time as a kid besides watch TV! (My mom disapproved Popeye's violence and occasional amoral disregard of others' feelings, and made me alternate days between watching Mickey Mouse and Popeye.) Now, of course, I notice details (e.g., exquisite artwork and witticisms) that went right past me back then.
Anyway, I think I'm now starting a kick even stronger than the one that gripped me for a couple of years when I finally decided to check out The Sopranos three years after it debuted. I look forward to having great fun trading opinions, observations and knowledge about what I say is truly a national treasure today.

I want to introduce myself: I'm a Spanish lifelong Popeye fan, and in case you want to know Pilón is the Spanish name (not only in Spain in S. America he is known with that name as well) for Wimpy since 1935 when this character was first introduced in Spain in the "Aventurero" magazine that published Segar's comics back in the 30's.
