Yes, I decided to upgrade. I think this will be nicer than the Bravenet forum. Why can't I find any big Popeye forums on the Web? I shouldn't have even had to make one, you know? I mean... it's Popeye!! He's like, The Man! Oh well... Anyways, yes, I am your faithful mod. My real name isn't Sparky but please call me that, I'm used to it. Anyways I'm 30, I live in California with my brother and an assortment of critters, and I have a degree in Creative Writing and very dull job, a combination which culminates in all these various fandoms I belong to and projects I am constantly cooking up for them... Enjoy yourselves! ~Sparky

Hi,Sparky.I'm Richard Ranke and I live in Ohio.I am 50,have a degree in communications and a job at a supermarket. We know each other already, and we both have had a chance to observe the Popeye Fan Fiction we have both written.
I have always been a Popeye fan-and I noticed the comic books I was reading as a child had more constancy than the cartoons. Now I have gotten all of the original Popeye comic strips in Fantagraphics' Popeye series. One person said,"Popeye was the perfect strip, consistent in adventure and humor."I totally agree.

Hi, Everyone! I'm 50 years old, happily married with two kids, and have been a Popeye fan ever since I was young. Back in my early years, Popeye cartoons were shown on TV every day, sometimes even a couple of times a day. Then several years ago, I was introduced to the Segar strips through members of the Popeye Fanclub (Richard included - thanks, Buddy!) and the Fantographic reprints. Segar is Da Man!! His Popeye and his Wimpy beat any other interpretation of the characters that have ever appeared. The strips still hold up today and I believe they are probably the best comic strips of all time.
Other hobbies are collecting comic books, watching new and classic movies, reading fiction books and theology books, walking, and once in awhile getting together to perform with my old colllege group.

I see the famousstudios Yahoo group is shutting down?? I had just found it! Well yes, everyone is welcome here, I've been around a long time and I'll stay even longer. Good I'll have more people to bug now. I may love the Popeye clan but I'm no authority, and I'm always looking for info for my website and the TV.com guide. ~Sparky

Ahoy!
Looks like I'm the first from the yahoo group to dock here. For those of you who haven't met me at famousstudiospopeye, my name is Garry. I'm 33 years old and a forensic psychologist. I'm originally from Melbourne, Australia, but have been living for quite a few years here in Miami, Florida. I'm married with three kids and more animals than I can safely count. I've been a Popeye fan since I was a wee lil' sailorman. My favorite Popeye period is the 30's, but I love all things Popeye (except for Popeye & Son, which continues to mystify me).
Well, I look forward to some good Popeye conversations and debate. Although I was saddened at the loss of famousstudiospopeye, I think that this site will be wonderful indeed.

Hello! I heard about the Cafe at the Yahoo group too. I'm "over 50" and relieved there are others "of an age" here too. Like most 50-somethings, I first met Popyeye and crew in cartoons on TV. But I became truly enchanted by them when I discovered the Segar strips. He really created a marvelous little world all his own! I probably won't be contributing all that much, but I'm looking forward to what other people have to say.

Hi, Sparky, my name is musicradio77, but I'm so good into cartoons. I love Disney a lot. I sometimes like Popeye. I watched the Popeye cartoons when I was a kid from the Flesicher years, the Famous years and the KFS years. I only have the movie starring Robin Williams as Popeye. I'm 27 years old and I love cartoons and movies. The last time I went to GAC Forums to discuss Popeye and other source was more than a week ago. Right now, I still got banned from GAC Forums due to the lack of posting negative nonsense about the DVD of "Cinderella". But now, I still registered to a couple of boards including my forum and a number of boards dedicated to the fans of Disney and TV shows. Sparky, welcome to the board.

Hiya, Sparky - I saw your post at the GAC forum and thought I'd check out your board.
I'm Craig Davison and I, too, am a Popeye nut from 'way back. I attribute this to repeated viewsings of POPEYE'S PLAYHOUSE on WBEN-TV, channel 4, Buffalo, NY.
I wrote a quraterly column for the Official Popeye Fanclub newsletter back in the 90s and even went to one of their annual "Popeye Picnics" in Chester, Illinois. To quote my brother, compared to these guys, I'm a Bluto fan! (Well, I thought it was a pretty funny line on his part...)
Hope to see you folks around the board!

Welcome to the newcomers. Lol, I'm not fishing for new members over at the GAC, really. I just needed to put something in my sig to prove I was a fan of the classics. ;D

Ahoy, all! I was a huge Popeye fanatic when I was a little girl, and I have just recently taken another dip into fandom. I am 22 (will be 23 in June) and studying psycholigiky. I live about 40 miles from Galveston, TX. When I was little, I had a crush on Popeye. That's the most personal thing I am willing to admit here. Thanks for the forum!
