Helloooooo....
Where IS everybody? What happened to all the posters from the Yahoo group? There used to be dozens of posts per week over there. The few of us who read this board from time to time need to be telling OTHER Popeye fans about it.

I owned and moderated the Yahoo group and before that I edited and "published" a Famous Studios Popeye Fan email newsletter. In both cases, though there were many subscribers, most of the material was written by a handfull of people. I think a major problem is that the Popeye cartoons, comic books, and collections of the classic strips aren't readily available to the general public. So, a person may be a Popeye fan because he or she remembers liking the sailor's antics as he or she was growing up, but doesn't remember much beyond that. And I have had many correspond with me via my FS Popeye website who will ask things like, "Wasn't there some cartoon where the inside of a tent was bigger than the outside?" Indeed there was ("A Wolf In Sheik's Clothing"), but if that's about all that can be recalled about the film, the correspondent isn't going to feel real comfortable about commenting on it or rating it. C'mon, Warner Brothers and KFS, release the cartoons already!

I too have wondered why the FS group isn't showing up much.I wish they would start showing Popeye cartoons again or make some new ones that deserve the title.Even so,those of us who are fans can do our part to keep these boards going. Please post something! I want to hear from you!

I am here. I have posted messages about Popeye as a drunk and pothead and about Mae Questel enraging her parents who, I suspect, had a Geezil thing going ("I hate them to pieces! Those miserable meeses!" Ooops, wrong character). I am doing my utmost. I am pushing the envelope of Popeye posts. I have left the safer topics behind. I have become dangerous.
Here's an example of my iconoclasm.
I refuse to buy spinach because you can't get it in a quantity small enough so that it doesn't go all bad before you finish it. And I was buying Popeye brand spinach on top of it! You've failed me, sailor man, and don't give me that "I yam what I yam" crud, that's gettin' mighty old....

Wimpy isn't helping matters any. Doesn't Carl's Jr. have a noose around him these days?

I am still awaiting Olive becoming a shill for Slim-Fast.
Or the day that Eugene trades in his "jeep, jeep" for "hummer, hummer."
Or for the Sea Hag to become a pitch-woman for Dungeons & Dragons.
Or for Geezil to announce that not only is he the founder of Beard Club for Men, but also a client.
